This is perhaps a little less the case today, but many career counsellors first examine the abilities of young students and prepare for their selection in choosing a career

For example, if you are successful in mathematics, it makes sense to work in accounting or computer. That makes sense, but is it the right choice when choosing a career? This is logical in the sense that you are comfortable with numbers and formulas. Accounting and information technology have just a strong link with logic and mathematics. So these two areas would be a smart choice, right? Can we be so sure?

The big question actually is what is the job that will make me feel passionate about what I do?  If you had asked this question from the start, would you have made the same steps of choosing a career?

Consider the following example in choosing a career. You are an avid photographer, but you choose to enter the field of IT, because you are assured of job security and good pay. If choosing a career is based on safety and income, do you think you’ll be pleased with your work? And if you had chosen to be a photographer, would you be happy even if your income were not as high as that of the computer related job?

If you had the chance to go back and in choosing a career, would you do the same choice? It is said that most people perceive their jobs as a chore rather than a joy. Do you think life would be different if in school we spent more time in our awareness and reflect on what may excite us when choosing a career? Why be unhappy in a job you hate but that pays well or poor but happy in a job that fascinates you?

Perhaps the most important step of choosing a career is the moment when you choose the type of degree you want to pursue. It is not uncommon for people to discover they have a certain set of skills and consider choosing a career based on those skills alone. While in some cases this may prove to be a good choice, it is of course not an axiomatic thing. No two people with the same skills will be as good in what they do and getting a degree to complete those skills and enhance them at the same time can make a huge difference when choosing a career.

The good news when choosing a career is that you have the opportunity of getting a second degree online if you feel that the first one you got was not suitable with your dreams and career goal. Actually, it is quite common for people to realize the choices they made when they were young reflect on the way they were choosing a career and they don’t like it anymore after a certain age. There is absolutely no need to get stuck in a career you are no longer enjoying just because you have a degree in that field. If you did not get it right from the first time, it does not mean you don’t get a second chance. Choosing a career after a certain age is a more and more common thing and you can do it too. By choosing a career that you will enjoy, you will most certainly improve your life considerable and this is something that is actually worth any price you have to pay.
